PRESENTATION

On April 24, 2001, by Exempt Resolution No. 0602, the creation of the Doctoral Program in Natural Resources Sciences was approved in accordance with the report issued to the Postgraduate Studies and approved by the Board in a Session dated January 11, 2001.

The Doctorate in Natural Resources Sciences is a multidisciplinary Science Program with a strong component towards technology and that is why the departments of Chemical Sciences and Natural Resources, Chemical Engineering, and Agricultural Production come together. This Program seeks to train graduates with the ability to function in an academic and non-academic world in interface areas between food production, agri-food biotechnology, energy, and bioprocesses for the development of sustainable agriculture and food security. We mainly emphasize chemical and biological mechanisms that allow us to generate innovative models to obtain new products derived from Natural Resources.

Since 2010, thanks to the support provided by BIOREN-UFRO to the Program in equipment and infrastructure, there has been a turning point in the scientific productivity indicators of the associated lines of research, in terms of the number and impact of the publications generated. in the last 7 years. The number of WoS (Ex-ISI) publications of the Program has increased more than 10 times compared to those generated at the beginning of the second accreditation of the Program in 2009.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

The main objective of the Doctorate of Natural Resources program is to train researchers of the highest level in Science, with a multidisciplinary and integral vision in the field of biology, microbiology, soil and environmental physical chemistry, nutrition and plant physiology, chemistry. and environmental biotechnology, ecological chemistry of terrestrial and aquatic systems. Currently, the Program has emphasized bioprocesses for sustainable agriculture, biotechnology in agri-food production, waste management, bioenergy and renewable energies, as well as a strong emphasis on metagenomics and metaproteomics.

SPECIFIC OBJETIVES:

  1. To train researchers with a modern and multidisciplinary vision in the field of natural resources with a strong focus on biotechnology and the ability to lead research lines in the areas of sustainable agri-food production, bioprocesses, food security, and renewable energy for the region and the country.
  1. To increase international visibility by strengthening collaboration networks through international cooperation programs with specialized universities and research centers that emphasize the biotechnological aspects associated with the Program’s research lines.
  1. To increase the scientific and technological capacity of our research areas, and to support our students and postgraduates to have a positive impact on the regional and national productive sector, with an emphasis on the biotechnological aspects of agri-food production.
  1. To contribute to the scientific and technological development in the area of natural resources in the Region of La Araucanía by transferring the results generated by the different working groups that support this Program.
